SUMMARY:Misogyny\, abuse and democracy in our unions
DESCRIPTION:Register here for the zoom meeting\, hosted by Troublemakers At Work. \nMany of our unions have been rocked by scandals of misogyny\, abuse\, and attempts to silence survivors. Join this online meeting to discuss these problems\, the connections between misogyny and the power structures within our unions\, and what we can do in each union to achieve change. \nSpeakers: \n\nHazel Conley is a Professor of Human Resource Management at Bristol Business School. She has researched equality issues including sexual harassment and trade union activism.\nFliss Premru is a TSSA union activist involved in #MeTU\, a group of women and non-binary trade unionists committed to ending sexism\, sexual harassment and violence\, and bullying in the labour movement.\n\nChair: \n\nKate Edwards\, NHS Workers Say NO!\n\nThose involved in #MeTU have been left with no choice but to draw attention to the fact that many of those employed by trade unions are not safe in their workplaces. They face the additional barrier of ‘shaming’ the movement if they speak out by washing our dirty linen in public. Shamefully\, survivors’ employers have taken advantage of their loyalty and commitment to the movement. \nRegister here for the zoom meeting\, hosted by Troublemakers At Work.

SUMMARY:How do we beat the Minimum Service Levels?
DESCRIPTION:The Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act is the latest in a long line of anti-union legislation. It threatens both workers and unions unless workers scab on their own strikes. \nJoin this online discussion\, hosted by Troublemakers At Work\, on how we defeat the latest Act and all the previous anti-strike laws. \nSpeakers: \n\nTim van Tinteren (ASLEF activist)\nEmma Runswick (BMA junior doctor)\nIan Allinson (author of Workers Can Win! SUMMARY:Learning from the US strike wave
DESCRIPTION:Summer-autumn 2023 saw a strike wave in the USA involving Starbucks workers\, healthcare workers\, pilots\, actors\, writers\, auto workers\, and others. A major national strike of UPS parcel workers in the Teamsters was narrowly avoided. \nSome of the strikes\, especially United Auto Workers’ strike against the “Big Three” car manufacturers\, have been directly or indirectly linked to reform efforts within the unions\, where networks of rank-and-file activists have come together to fight to transform their unions. \nJoin this online discussion with US labour movement activists to discuss what we can learn from their strikes. Book your free place now via Zoom. \nSPEAKERS:\n\nChris Viola is an auto worker and member of UAW Local 22\, Unite All Workers for Democracy\, and Metro Detroit Democratic Socialists of America\n Joe De Manuelle-Hall is a staff writer and organiser for the journal Labor Notes\nCyn Huang is a shop steward in the Higher Education section of the UAW\, a member of the Bread & Roses caucus of the Democratic Socialists of America\, and an activist in the Rank-and-File Project\, which aims to support socialist activists in getting rank-and-file jobs\n\nCHAIR:\n\nKate Edwards is a health worker\, activist with NHS Workers Say No\, and one of the coordinators of Troublemakers At Work\n\nThe meeting is hosted by Troublemakers At Work\, a network of rank-and-file trade unionists launched at a conference in Manchester in July. We aim to support workers in organising to win change in their workplaces and in their unions.
