Public sector pay: is this the best we can do?

The new government has announced pay offers for some public sector workers which are above latest 2.9% inflation figure, but do little to reverse the years of falling real wages, underfunding, staffing shortages and overwork.

• NHS: 5.5%
• Teachers: 5.5%
• Junior doctors: 13.2% for 2023 and 8% for 2024
• Armed forces: 6%
